La Paz School Considers Three Land Offers
By Vanessa Garnica

The Board of Directors of the La Paz Community School, in Guanacaste, announced this week it is considering three different land donations for future school expansion.

The Flamingo-based community school, which is finishing its first year of operations, has been looking for land in order to expand its existing campus.

One offer came from the Black Stallion Hills Association in Santa Rosa. The piece of land being offered by this group is about three hectares (about seven acres).

A second offer has been made by the developers behind the Pinilla Academy, who have about eight hectares (almost 20 acres) about a kilometer east of the Hacienda Pinilla. The developers had wanted to build their own school on the land, but the project was shelved.

APPLE A DAY: Parents raised questions at a meeting Tuesday about possible tenders for land for La Paz Community School.

The third offer came from unnamed developers behind a project in Playa Potrero.

In a letter to the Board President, Abel McClennen, the developer said it “intends to develop a resort town on a portion of the land” being offered.

The endeavor described on the letter details a project where “private homes, resort lodging, shops and restaurants, civic buildings such as churches, a theatre, and open air markets,” would be part of the project.

In addition, “the town will be surrounded by roughly 350 hectares (about 865 acres) of underdeveloped area,” the letter read.

Mr McClennen said a recommendation would be sent to the board in September.
